Poker Night Raises €1500

Thanks to Justin Cummins for organising the Poker Night last Saturday, great night. Also special mention to Elaine and Joe at Murphy’s Bar, thanks for the hospitality.

In total, €1500 was raised on the night which is going directly to the Club House project. See photos.

And on Saturday, Eddie Balfe put his talents to work, planting his custom made aluminium flag holders on each corner, 13, 20 and 45 and 65. They are at an angle for safety (flags are supposed to be at an angle in case a player falls on a flag, flags should not be a a 90 degrees) and positioned on the line. Thanks also to David Balfe for helping out. See photos.

The official size of the pitch is now, 140m by 83m. A full size pitch is 145m x 90m and Croke Park is in fact, not full size, but 145m x 88m!!

Minimun pitch size is 130m x 80m.

Interesting point…you might note that flags in Croke Park are not placed on the sideline, but a couple of feet back. Sideline flags are not supposed to be on the sideline at all, as the ball is only out of play when the ball is fully over the line. And so, if a ball hits a sideline flag, the ball is deemed out by the referee as opposed to soccer the corner flag is a part of the game. If a ball hits a corner flag in soccer and stays on the pitch the ball is still in play.

So, strictly speaking, sideline flags in GAA should be a foot off the sideline in order to allow the ball to cross the line…
