Message from, Shane Byrne, Oifigeach Gaeilge & Cultúir, CLG Chill Mhantáin
As you may be aware, Éire Óg Greystones will be our host club for Scór na nÓg 2024. The evening of Friday 18th of October 2024 has been chosen as the date for the 2024 Scór na nÓg County Final. Temple Carrig School will be the venue.
Eligibility: All entrants must be under 17 the 1/1/24 to be eligible for Scór na nÓg 2024. I.e. If a club member was born in 2007 or later, they are eligible to enter. All Scór participants must be members of the club they’re representing.
Scór Áitiúil/Local Scór
This year we are encouraging clubs to organise a Scór evening in their own club, prior to the county final, to give your participants a chance to perform in front of an audience before the big night in Greystones on October 18th. This would also help to raise awareness of Scór in your community if it is advertised well.
A couple of clubs could cluster together for this to create a larger audience. We envisage that these Scór Áitiúil would take place towards the end of September or in early-October. If planning to organise a Scór Áitiúil let me know.
What to do now:
- Have a read of the attached explanatory document which briefly describes each of the Scór categories. For a more detailed description of all categories and general rules, click I have also attached a list of songs that can be sung for both the Amhránaíocht Aonair (Solo-Singing) and Bailéad Grúpa categories. This list is not exhaustive!
- Contact people in your club or community who you think might be interested in participating. For Rince Foirne/Céilí Dancing, local dance teachers would be a good place to start. Local Comhaltas groups would also be very interested. It is just over 7 weeks until October 18th so reaching out to potential participants now will give them plenty of time to prepare.
3 I have attached a list of the categories for the Tráth na gCeist (Question Time) also.
4 If you have any questions in relation to any aspect of Scór, don’t hesitate to contact myself at this email address or on (087) 2291548 or Rúnaí Scór, Kathryn Noone at fogartynoone@gmail.com
5. When you have entries, please fill out the attached entry form and return it to myself or Kathryn via email. If you are unsure of any member’s GAA number, you can leave this blank for now. You will, however, need to submit it before October 18th.
I will send promotional posters to you too which you can use to promote and recruit for Scór in your club. I will be in touch via phone over the next week or so
